maintenance-01At Prairie Sunset Home (PSH), our goal and desire is to provide a safe, clean, attractive and pleasant facility for residents, visitors and staff.  The maintenance staff performs routine maintenance and repairs of the resident rooms, apartments and common areas inside and outside of the residence.  Generally we will have freshened up the room with new paint, cleaned and waxed the floor just prior to the resident moving in.  Residents are encouraged to bring furnishings as desired, pictures and other mementos to personalize and help make the room as home-like as is practical.  Housekeeping and maintenance staff can assist in hanging pictures or moving heavy furniture. Just ask!

We have developed a comprehensive preventative maintenance program so as to stay in front of routine upkeep and needed repairs of the building and grounds.  You can expect a quick and effective response to any defect, problem or needed repair in a resident’s room.  If you notice any of our common areas in need of maintenance service please feel free to bring it to our attention.  If you would notify any staff member about your concern or observation, then the staff member will immediately initiate a maintenance request for action.  If you prefer, you can ask for a memo form from the office or nurse’s station and fill it out at your convenience to request maintenance support.

maintenance-02The residence is inspected annually by the Kansas Department for Aging and Disability Services (KDADS).  KDADS sends in trained nurses and sanitarians to check for equipment serviceability, routine maintenance needs and potential safety violations.  The Kansas Fire Marshall’s Office inspects the facility annually as well to verify that we are incompliance with all provisions of the Life Safety Code.  Many of the horns, bells and drills you hear are a result of our desire to keep residents safe and comply with regulations.

Every resident room and most common areas have cable television access.  If the resident desires an internet connection in the room, then arrangement must be made with the office and Century Link. In addition, each resident room has individually controlled heating and air-conditioning and an overhead fire suppression sprinkler system.  Telephone jacks are available in every room if you would like to have your own phone.  Many residents opt for cell phones as a more convenient and portable way to stay in touch with family and friends.  All costs associated with your phone will be your responsibility and the phone company will bill you directly.  If you choose not to have your own phone, a phone is available for use by our residents.

While all efforts will be made to protect the property of residents, PSH does not provide insurance coverage for any type of loss or damage to residents’ own furniture or personal belongings.  We recommend that you obtain renter’s insurance, or similar coverage that would provide coverage to your satisfaction.

Our maintenance staff works throughout the daytime hours and is on call for additional needs 24 hours a day.
